Rose...Heart of Gold

I have ordered this rose and it will be coming soon. I live in Louisville, KY , zone 6a. Is there anyone who grows this rose in my zone, or close by? I would like to plant it in my garden rather than a pot, but worry about the zone. I do grow several roses in pots that overwinter in my garage. I would appreciate any info one might have about the heartiness of this rose. Thanks....Lesley

I just realized this is the first time I've noticed this rose come up in this forum. Little help, but my local nursery has had 2 year old Heart of Golds in stock. I don't know why I haven't purchased one yet. The blooms are magnificent - huge, round, gorgeous coloring and an absolutely awesome fragrance. This is zone 9 and clearly it does great in dry heat...

This beautiful rose MIGHT (?) be a little winter tender in your area. But with a little protection it should do great. For the winter build a cone around it using 36"-48" chicken wire. Make it square. It's easier to make. Sometime right after Thanksgiving fill it up with oak leafs. If you get a hard freeze with blowing winds (10 degrees or colder) wrap the top part with an old blanket using cloths pins to secure it. It should be good to go come spring. Really one of the best things you can do is do NOT feed any of your roses after the first week of Oct. And the last feeding make it low in nitrogen. This way your roses can get ready for the winter.

I tried to grow this rose up here in Michigan. Too tender here. You may do better because you are farther south. Protect it. I have to say it was a very beautiful rose.
