Both of these show the default zones of 6 thru 9 on HMF, however, both are listed as being grown in multiple zone 5 gardens in the US.

Le Rêve--it is rated down to zone 3(!), but isn't supposed to be scented and is perhaps a brighter yellow than you specified.

Roberta Bondar from Fleming in Canada is a hardy, yellow climbing rose.

I am growing, or was growing as of last fall, Goldregen, from Noack. We have had continuous snow cover since the beginning of Dec. and temps have not gotten much below -10F, so I have hopes it will survive. It is very pretty, having soft yellow, ruffled flowers, and grows vigorously.

If mine grows like it did the past two years, I would love to send people cuttings, because I think this an excellent rose which deserves distribution.

Lykkefund, a helenae hybrid and also there are some other helenae types with soft yellow flowers .....such as Saemmling.

How about Autumn Sunset? This rose has bountiful blooms, rich perfume, excellent health & hardiness with strong growth. In my central Virginia garden, consider it a light yellow rose with traces of apricot & golden yellow that give depth to the coloring. It replaced Golden Showers, whose blooms lasted only a couple of days here. Really love this rose!

Leverkusen. I totally agree with mordenman, it is a great rose for cold climates. Mine has been in the ground for 5 years and still going strong despite the cold winters.

Nice to see you on here. It has been a long time and I am on here very infrequently at best these days. I hope you are well and that the garden is as beautiful as always.

As for the topic of zone 5 pale yellow climbers, there are a lot of suggestions being made here. While almost any yellow climber can be grown in zone 5, very few will end up to be actual climbers in zone 5 unless they have innate cane hardiness or are winter protected each year.

As a result, very few yellows would qualify as a true climber in zone 5. Leverkusen with it's hybrid Kordesii genes is certainly one of them and it is a true pale yellow as well. Gold Stern is another, but it wants to be more of a large bushy shrub than a climber.

The Austin rose, Teasing Georgia is another pale yellow that can be surprisingly cane hardy in mild zone 5 winters, or if planted in a microclimate location and/or winter protected. However, it is not reliably hardy and hence I would not normally recommend it.

Morden Man makes a great point about climbers in zone 5 and colder, that if they're not mostly cane hardy (meaning little dieback in the winter) they're not likely to grow tall enough to climb and bloom in your zone. In my yard, I can vouch for Teasing Georgia as reliably cane hardy not only in zone 5 sections of my yard, but my zone 4 pocket as well on the east side of my house. That rose is one of the few roses listed that meets your secondary criterion of scent, since not many zone 5 hardy climbers are scented, and in fact scent is often sacrificed for hardiness as in many Kordes roses. You might ask others in your zone (like Seil or Mordenman) about disease resistance, since you're much more humid than I am, given the extent to which lots of disease can affect winter survival.

i also have Casino growing in my yard and it has survived well, and being a descendent of New Dawn I have high hopes for vigor and hardiness in my zone. Another rose you might consider is Lunar Mist, which is a lemon yellow fluffy Romantica that is on its fourth year in my yard (mine is grafted from Regans). Mine mingles freely with my yellow Puerta del Sol (very hardy but may not be available currently) and Apricot Sky (mostly yellow, own root from Roses Unlimited), so it's a little hard to tell how vigorously it blooms, but I think Lunar Mist has some fragrance as well.

It's great to hear that Goldregen survives well in our zone, nastarana, since I planted that one last year from Vintage. My Roberta Bondar hasn't wanted to be more than a large shrub, but it's still young. I have high hopes for my third try at Goldstern that hasn't gotten established in my summers yet, but should survive the winters. Autumn Sunset also does very well for me, and I ought to try Leverkusen as it has had great reviews consistently on GW.

Fortunately being zone 5 you have many options for climbers that aren't available even one zone colder, so you can see what suits you among the choices.

I think you should try Kordes Golden Gate. We have good reports on this variety in Zone 5. It is quite a grower and in warm climates may reach 14 feet in a season. You could also try Moonlight which is a bit paler but has some pink tones in the flower. Both have done well in Zone 5 trials.

Where did you purchase Goldregen from? I've never had a yellow climber and would really like to get one that's hardy for our region.

I purchased Goldregen from Vintage. I do hope another American nursery will pick it up as it seems so far to be an excellent rose. It was not cane hardy, but grew rapidly and produced spectacular, ruffled soft yellow flowers, about 4" inches across. This is not one where you have to wait 3 years before you see a rose. It would likely be amazing in zone 6 or 7, and might become a monster in 8 or 9. It also did not, so far, holding my breath, blackspot like my other yellows.

Almost forgot Lemon Meringue! It's a sport of Autumn Sunset (which sported from Westerland). Lemon Meringue is a pastel yellow with all the traits of Autumn Sunset, including strong fragrance.
