I just ordered one from J&P today and have my invoice. Surely I didnt get the last one??? Have you tried Regan Nursery? I ordered a few from them today as a last minute order....they might have one. Also try Edmunds, S&W Greenhouse or K&W Roses. Maybe Angel Gardens has one or Roses Unlimited on own roots. Good luck!

Regans does not have it at this time. I checked. I just ordered four this afternoon from K&M Nursery at the suggestion of Ken-n.ga.mts. They will be on fortuniana rootstock, which Kstrong suggested is best with this rose. J&P's website says that they are sold out. According to their websites, both Angel and Roses Unlimited still have it own root. Now to be honest I usually prefer an own-root rose unless there is a particular reason to get it grafted. Kstrong tells me that this rose is very slow to grow on its own roots. I don't have time for that. I need mine to be bodacious by late spring 2013. Good luck finding yours. My second choice was Sugar Moon, but enough people sang the praises of PJPII that I am happy in my choice. Despite its lack of scent, I also bought two Tineke for a different spot just because of its reported resistance to thirps. I am so not a hybrid tea gardener, but I think I am going to enjoy growing these very much. Rosefolly

You know, J&P now shows the rose as in stock. I swear it showed up as sold out this morning when I tried to order it myself! Rosefolly
Here is a link that might be useful: PJPJII

Pembroke, I just figured it out. Apparently J&P sells this rose grafted and own-root both. They still have the own-root version, but the grafted is sold out. I found this all very confusing, and I'm sorry if I confused you as well. Rosefolly

Yes slow to grow on own roots but a very nice shaped plant when it gets there eventually. My own root is performing great and has many more canes than my plant on Huey roots but it was a wimpy grower for for a long time. Suddenly it took off and has wanted to grow very large.

HMF says S&W Greenhouse and Angel Gardens both have it. I don't know how this rose would be own root. Mine is grafted on the good Dr. and it still isn't the most vigorous grower in the garden.

My PJPII (from a hardware store's nursey sale in March 2010) is on its own roots and is planted against the south-facing wall of our home that is painted a dark color, so it is warmer here than it other areas. It is generously and deeply watered by the drip system. It grew around 4 feet tall in its first year: not a slow grower for me!!! It always seem to be in flower. It has good sized blooms that are very fragrant and full. This is the best white hybrid tea that I have ever grown.
|
My own-root is pretty good. It bet it will be awesome on fortuniana.
|
I bought an own root John Paul II from Jackson and Perkins three years ago and it took off immediately. It has beautiful white blooms all summer. I haven't done any winter protection and it manages just fine. It is a really good grower for me.

Pembroke, did you ever find the plants you were looking for? Rosefolly
