Companion plants for Altissimo?

| I picked up an Altissimo at a nice garden center at the end of the season last year for a song. As a result, I really had no preconceived plan for it. I planted it on a south-facing wall of my white garage. It's a rather quaint, 100-year-old garage with a nice old wavy glass window next to the Altissimo. It looks kind of like a little white cottage at the back of my yard.
Anyway, any suggestions for companion plants that won't clash with Altissimo? Perhaps a vine like a clematis? Any suggestions for perennials to plant in front of it? Something yellow to complement the yellow stamens of Altissimo? If you have one and have pictures, that would be fantastic.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

| No suggestions yet?!? How about a white clematis and a very short yellow or white rose in front to hide Altissimo's bare knees? 'Julia Child' or 'White Pet' or 'Bolero'? Or...yellow/golden daylilys to complement Altissimo stamens? Or the beautiful lavender-blue cloud of Geranium 'Rozanne'? I actually have 'Molineux' and 'Easy Going' planted in front of my Altissimo, with daylilys mixed in and Geranium 'Rozanne' in front of all that. Altissimo grows rather stiffly upright then branches out. The flowers and foliage start about 3' up. I couldn't find a great picture. This is from '07 when everything was quite a bit smaller, but it gives a hint at the growth habit. In a colder zone it's going to be smaller, most probably.

| Beautiful, hoovb! I just love it. Thanks so much for the suggestions and especially for the picture. It gives me a better visual about the possibilities. Lisa |

| I didn't have any suggestions but I was going to mention the bare knees, you will definitely have to design around that. Altissimo is stunning though, and well worth the small inconvenience. I also could never have come up with anything half as beautiful as hoovb anyway:) |

| Hmmmmm, deep crimson-scarlet.............. Tricky color to work with! My first thought is to go straight for contrast and plant something like Mainacht in front of it, along with something similar in color, and a bit taller (maybe a purple-blue Monarda?) To keep the theme going a step or two further I might add in some California poppies or butterflyweed, too. Oriental poppies are obviously no help most of the summer, but in June they might make for an eye-catching combination if the poppies & the rose bloomed together. Another way to keep it going into the autumn (when the sage was done) would be to add blue asters. |

| That chartreuse foliaged plant looks terrific in contrast to the Altissimo. |
