I found 3 of these in peat pots at Walmart today and bought them - I understand it is a hard rose to find. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Does it like some protection from the hot, all day sun? Fragrance? Photos look lovely....at $7 each, why not? Canes look green and healthy, leaves just barely thinking about popping out. I am working on some beds and thought I might plant them in pots to let roots start growing - can plant them in a few weeks into the new beds. Thanks for any comments on this one.... Judith

I bought this one last year, also at Walmart. Because I live in the desert, I did plant it to receive only about 4 - 5 hours direct sun daily. It did very well in the first year in those conditions. It did not bloom profusely but this was just the first year and those that I got with terrific. I have a no spray garden and I could not detect anything other than occassional aphids. The fragrance is much better than the label would indicate. In case you have not seen this, here's a link to better describe the rose. I think you'll will love this rose.
Here is a link that might be useful: Moonlight Magic

I need to look into this beauty. My garden could use a nice lavender HT. Royal Amethyst is the only lavender HT I have.

Ken, I have Royal Amethyst ordered for this year. I saw it en masse at the Tyler Rose Garden last spring - it was gorgeous! Maybe these two would look good together, perhaps with Munstead Wood, which I will pick up from David Austin in Tyler next week....I am thinking a grouping of different shades of lavenders would look good. I have a bed that gets all day sun until about 3pm which would be protection from the brutal Texas sun.

Some roses deserve to be "rare" and Moonlight Magic is one of those. Stingy bloomer that doesn't do anything better than the other mauves on the market. Sorry. Just my thoughts. Ken, my fave Lavender hybrid tea is still Neptune. And if you don't mind ruffly form, then Heirloom is still the most prolific bloomer with the least health issues. Or Stainless Steel is good for the lighter color and better exhibition form.

Crud!!!! I forgot. I have 2 Stainless Steel's in the HT bed out back. Is Neptune REALLY worth getting?? I heard it sprays like crazy and the blooms are so big they cram together.

Well, that's true, but I like the sprays and the even bigger blooms if you happen to get out there to disbud.
