My Pickering order.

| This weekend we bought a Parole rose, a Gemini, and Paparoseman gave me a Glamis Castle. I just ordered from Pickering Champion, Falling in love, Milestone, Octavia Hill and White Gold. I decided to stop fretting and just buy. If they are duds I will pull them out! |

As soon as you get your order soak them in water. Pickering doesn't place anything on the roots for hydration purposes and it usually takes 5-7 days to get to the West Coast. I hope you have better luck with them than I did. |

| I have never had anything but good luck with Pickering and have ordered from them for years. Would not hesitate to do so again. |

| My roses from Pickering take at least a week to arrive and they are always ok. They are sealed in plastic and have always been moist. It is good advice to soak them before planting though. I order many roses from Pickering each year and have only been disappointed on a few. I think it depends on the variety and the weather they experience that particular year. This year all the fall ordered roses were very good. I notice that many of their No 1 plants are sold out and they are offering smaller plants of some varieties. I have White Gold and I love it. It's a nice large growing plant with lots of informal style blooms. You'll love Falling in Love if it does well for you. I'm not sure it will be very hardy for me, as I think it is a cross of Moonstone and Marilyn Monroe neither of which are very hardy here - no problem this year tho. We had Octavia Hill years ago and gave it away which I understand was a mistake as I've been told it is a very nice garden rose that blooms well. I hope you're not disappointed in your Pickering order. They are very reputable to deal with, but sometimes things go wrong. Sometimes the plants can be small and can take up to three years to mature into a good size bush. Good luck with your roses. White Gold

| Thanks Maj. Where in the PNW are you? Also what else do you have in your garden that is a must? |

| I live in Maple Ridge, BC not too far from the Sumas border. Our roses bloom a little later than in Seattle (I have a son living there) because of our altitude and proximity to the mountain. I have lots of roses, but most are old timers that have been in the garden for at least 15 years, so I'm not really up on all the new exciting ones. I planted several Julia Child and they are wonderful. I also hear that it does well almost anywhere. Another newer more informal bloom roses I have is Champagne Moment aka Lions Fairytale. It's hard to tell someone which roses are must have's because I think that everone seems to be successful with different cultivars. Some of my most favourite roses are old timers such as Liebeszauber, Berolina, and Savoy Hotel for the hardiness, quality of bloom, and quantity of flowers to each plant, and nice to cut for bouquets. For garden display though I like shrubs - lots of them, or larger growing floribundas. I like to choose my roses by seeing them in another garden. That way I have a better idea of the growth pattern and where to place them in my own garden. You're fortunate to have so many beautiful rose gardens in the Seattle area and so many experts to advise you. If your not a member of the Seattle Rose Society, join even just for the newsletter. You'll get more from it attending meeting though. Good luck in your quest, and enjoy your roses. |
