| I had a Julio years ago and recall that it had a great scent. Is there much difference between the two? Sentimental would be cheaper and I could pick it up when I go to a rose nursery not far from me but just wanting to get the best rose. Any opinions? Is there much difference in color? Thanks! | I have two Julio's. Meillands seem to do well here in dry hot summers with a half day of sun. It's a very healthy bush and repeats well. The blooms have nice form. They are pretty loud color-wise. You might not want to plant him near other roses unless those roses are white or major raspberry. I don't grow Scentimental. Mary |

Scentimental has a great scent, thus the name. The color is always very nice. Sometimes it's more red; sometimes it's more white. The blooms are well formed, but don't last long. I don't grow Julio.

I love striped roses, but hate Scentimental. Even in my cool climate, the blooms shatter within a day or two. Not worth the effort tor me. On the other hand, I do like Julio Iglesias. But there's a third one you should definitely consider that is currently in the Home Depot stores here right now that is one of my very favorite stripers, and that is Perfume Tiger. Take a run over to your Home Depot (or whatever store in your vicinity that sells Jim Coiner's roses) and see if you can snag that one. You won't be sorry. Kathy in SoCal

I gave away my Scentimental--not only because the blooms shattered quickly, but also because it had more blackspot problems than I cared to worry about. Other than those reasons, lovely blooms and nice scent--but I wouldn't plant another one in my garden if any kind of reasonable alternate choice were available. Kate

Scentimental is a nice bushy bush with beautiful blooms that went from bud in the morning to fully open by sundown and all the petals on the ground the next morning. It stuck around for one year and I got tired of it. Go with Julio.

I have never heard of Perfume Tiger, but I will definitely go to Home Depot tomorrow to see if I can find one. Sure hope mine has them...would love to try this rose. Just went to Houston today to take advantage of the 15% discount for rose society members - got lots of fertilizer, my yearly jaunt. I could have stopped at a couple of Home Depots there had I read your post before I went. Will be going back in a couple of weeks to see my grandson, so will for sure stop by if mine doesnt carry it. I have read about Scentimental blowing blooms quickly - dont think that is a rose I need. I really liked Julio when I had it years ago.....so think I will go with it. I recall the scent as being quite strong. Not crazy about the here today, gone tomorrow roses.

Repeat of what Kate in Kansas said. I never even got that much fragrance. So between blooms blasting quickly and disease, it lasted about 3 years in my garden before I pitched it....Maryl

What about Rock & Roll? I've been tempted to buy this rose on a handful of occasions but just haven't done it. I too have Scentimental, and was hoping with maturity the blooms wouldn't shatter in a day. Sounds like that's not going to happen. So, have been thinking about replacing with Rock & Roll. I've seen it in bloom, and the blooms are gorgeous and fragrant. But don't think I've heard it talked about in this forum.

One of my neighbors has 'Perfume Tiger' and likes it a lot. I got rid of 'Scentimental' for some of the same reasons listed by previous posters, but mine was also very stingy after the initial spring flush. It had zero disease and would stay fully foliaged right down to the ground, but the lack of flowers for most of the year doomed it.

I hadnt thought about Rock & Roll. Its a grandiflora and Julio is a floribunda. I would tink Julio might be the heavier bloomer. Because of blowing blooms quickly, Scentimental is out - though it would be cheaper and easier for me to get. Any thoughts on Rock & Roll?

I'm with Harmonyp - I love Rock 'n' Roll and it has been a more prolific bloomer than either Scentimental or Julio for me (and yes, the Scentimental only lasted one year before I got frustrated with it). Another one to consider that's a frequent bloomer is Stars and Stripes Forever. The only consideration for both of those is how tall they get - they're quite hardy in my yard and a good 5 feet tall or more most of the year. Somewhat smaller and still a tough cookie is Fiesta, one of the Easy Elegance series. All of those should be available through more or less common sources. If you're willing to stretch further afield, the Delbard series of striped/painted roses make my little heart sing. My favorite one is Edgar Degas, but no one seems to be offering it these days. Similar but with less white space is Henri Matisse, and I've been very pleasantly surprised by Alfred Sisley if you like an orange cast to your stripes. Cynthia
