Where can I find a Legends Rose Bush?

Posted by AmyBeck 5 (My Page) on

I recently moved leaving behind a small but beautiful rose garden. I have begun to finalize my selections for my still small but hopefully as wonderful rose garden. I can not find a place to order a legends rose bush anywhere online. Does anyone have any sources/recommendations?

The other roses I am choosing if you have input are:
Deep Secret
Ledgends
Snow Fire
Double Delight
Electron
Crystalline
Limelight
Orange n' Lemons
Just Joey
Tequila Sunrise
Paradise

I am a traditional hybrid tea rose lover. Thanks for any help!!

I order from Roses Unlimited. Legends is listed in their alphabetical rose list.

You can get 'Ledgends' at www.edmundsroses.com as well. I ordered Oranges and Lemons from heirloom roses(I posted a link at the bottom) Its own root though, I'm not sure how well its going to do. Some roses do very well own root and others... don't lol. I have a double delight, its one of my favorites :) I bought it at Wall Mart last year and its really, surprisingly, healthy. Its givien me zero problems, actually its starting to leaf out! Not buds, LEAVES! :)

If you mean Snowfire, it's one of my least favorite roses but I keep it because my DB loves it. It's a weak grower, terrible for black spot, the blooms usually ball and don't open and it's the thorniest rose you'll ever see.

I also have Double Delight, Electron, and Paradise and love them. All of them will black spot some but they're lovely bloomers and hardy. I had Just Joey and it's a gorgeous rose but can be winter tender.

Some HTs you might consider are: Veterans' Honor, huge blooms that last for ages. Elle, has lovely large pink blooms that will change colors to peach with the weather. Dick Clark was surprisingly good for me last year in it's first season but I don't know about wintering yet. The canes look green but it hasn't started to really bud out yet. Some oldies but goodies I like are Folklore, Garden Party, Granada, Hondo and of course Peace, too. Most HTs are going to spot some without spraying though. So if you want those big HT blooms and you can't live with the spots you'll have to spray regularly.

Thank you so very much. My father has always had roses, and we kinda winged it together. At my last house I had 5 (JFK, Mr Lincoln, Double Delight, Chicago Peace, and a Just Joey). They did so well I refused to sell them with the house...until they made me an offer i couldn't refuse. This time around i am trying to do research and learn about the real dynamics to roses. I just found this forum last night!

Thanks for the recommendations. I do agree the Just Joey is kinda tough, but my little brother is Joey so it is a sentimental thing :) I agree my last snowfire (when i was 15 with my dad) was hard to keep alive and i eventually lost it...another sentimental choice. Double Delight has always been my favorite and easy to grow in New England!! I ordered from Heirloom and i know they are own roots (which means a little to me) so i am expecting a couple years for them to really produce. any tips/pointers?

Thanks for the info on black spot. How and why does it happen? I haven't seen much black spotting in my past, but usually pale brown vein-like spots, which i think ate beetles?!?
Any other great rose resources? I have a ton of books but Im hoping for an online go-to as well. What about fertilizers? I have always used Rose-Tone and stayed organic for the environment and my dogs. Now my dogs can get to my roses and I would like to help them really start off well.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, and please forgive my novice approach!

Roses Unlimited sells only own root roses, so some HTs may have a problem in zone 5. Don't put bone meal in the planting hole or the dogs will dig them up. According to the American Rose Society and the University of Illinois Extension, the casual rose grower can use 10-10-10 or 12-12-12 as fertilizer. Blain's Farm and Fleet has a 30 lb. sack of 13-13-13 for $8.99 this week. Protect roses from rabbits with hardware cloth or chickenwire. When planting grafted roses, bury the bud union 3 inches. Consider hardy Buck or Austin roses in zone 5.
