Julia Child...?

Has anyone grown this yellow rose? The flowers appear to be enormous! Scent, growth habit, disease issues...etc?

RE: Julia Child...?

I grow two Julias and they are among my favorite roses. They are constantly in flower with medium sized, soft yellow blooms. I love Julia Child's round, full growth habit, a very attractive look for the garden. I find my two to be very vigorous roses, with one attaining about 6 feet tall, and the other about 5 feet. In other areas, they might be smaller. Julia handles the hot, dry summers here about the best of any of my roses, and does well in the cold, too. We don't have black spot to worry about in this dry, desert area, but I have read on the forum other members who think Julia is fairly disease resistant. Julia doesn't have much scent for me, but other growers have found her to be scented. Still, I think Julia Child is a wonderful rose. Diane

Many people love Julia...i don't. In Texas it never got bigger than knee-high for me, with few blooms. I think i had four Julias.
But i'm probably too negative. I also dislike Belinda...all those boring dull pink blooms.
So take my opinion with a large dash of salt, lol.

I love my Julia Child. I own four of them, and they are planted in front of a horse fence. They are about 3 to 4 years old, and are about 4 1/2 feet high. The plants are nicely rounded bushes, and they flower profusely. Here in 7b, York S.C. I do have to spray for black spot, as if I don't spray on schedule it will surely appear.

I purchased a large grafted Julia last year midsummer. She did very well in a hot dry(soil) area. No disease and I don't spray. She has a fragrance of licorice but it wasn't strong to me. Lovely color. A nice clear yellow, imho.
Other roses got the spots but she didn't.

I purchased my first Julia last summer and was so pleased with it I got another this spring. We are developing a problem with a tree growing out over the roses, shading them a little too much, yet Julia did quite well with less sun and mildew wasn't a problem either. It did not get very large last summer, and that's fine with me. But it bloomed beautifully.

She is good for me, also. Not nearly as beautiful as nanadoll's.

I love my Julia Child! Fabulous blooms all season, pretty good health and great hardiness.

In our coastal Z8, she performs spectacularly. Big, healthy, disease-resistant.

Over here, it is called Absolutely Fabulous (I know, the name almost put me off but one of the offspring bought it for me for mother's day last year). Still only a baby but it looks rather good underneath a rampant yellow tree paeony. You can see them from the other end of the plot (almost a sunglasses moment).

Wow...it sounds like a real winner! The color is almost too vivid for me, but my favorite local nursery has bare root plants of it. They have REALLY scaled back their selection of roses and I feel like I should buy something from them, to help them keep the faith regarding roses. Now I'm excited about it and I think I'll go get one! Thanks for all the great info!!!

Diane- your roses are such gold medal champions I think southern Idaho must be rose heaven.
Your Brother C, Buff Beauty and this Julia are to die for.

zjw, my close ups of Julia are less bright. I'll post a pic.

lola-lemon, thanks so much for your comments. They add to the many rewards of growing roses.
