| I am looking for a small climber to go on a trellis with my clematis 'HF Young' and 'Dr Rupple'. This is in partial shade (about 5 hours of sun) and in Central Maryland.
I had 'Pascali' there for the past 5 years and it never did anything but bloom a small handful of times and then died off. I know there are no 100% disease resistant climbers but I want something that will at least give me a chance. I always have BS on my other roses but they are not severe. I have white phlod 'David' right in front, so I'm not sure what color rose that will work with all of those othe colors. |

| Three shrubby climbers that are resistant in some eastern gardens are 'Papi Delbard,' original 'Aloha' (Boerner 1949) and 'The Generous Gardener.' |

| A small climber that performs very well in partial shade is 'Gruss an Aachen, Climbing'. Also, it's color (a sort of creamy white, often subtly blended with pink) would complement both of the clems you mentioned. 'Gruss an Aachen, Climbing' is very rare in this country, but is presently available at Vintage Gardens. It's listed there as a Hybrid Tea Climber (most sources classify 'Gruss an Aachen' and all its sports as Floribundas). I was extremely pleased with the size of the plant of this rose that Vintage shipped to me last spring. It was the largest band I've ever received from them. In addition to the climbing sport, I also grow 'Gruss an Aachen' and 'Pink Gruss an Aachen'. All are grown in partial shade, have healthy foliage, and repeat well. |
