| I received my order from David Austin yesterday. Wow, really great looking, healthy strong canes and good root systems. I'm very impressed.
Since I got home late from work, I just wrapped the plastic back up (there's lots of moisture in the box, it got here in 3 days) and put it into my unheated basement overnight. I took the day off from work today with the intention of planting. However two things; First is that my boyfriend, who is helping me, spent the last couple of days doing other needed yard work and his hands are completely wrecked with blisters. Second, is that I woke up to hear the weather report and they are predicting that tonight, we could see temperatures go down to around 20ish here in my area of NJ. So, between these two things, holding off until tomorrow at the least makes sense. Gives him a chance to let his hands heal a bit, and get over the hump of those freezing temps. (NOTE: Odd. Just heard a conflicting weather report which does not call for such cold overnight. Will have to check on this). Now, here's my question (thought I wouldn't get to it, huh?). Should I start soaking the roses today, or leave them in the box? If I leave them in the box, would I be better off putting them in my extra fridge in the basement? There's nothing in it at all right now, I could adjust the temperature to accommodate them - or is the environment of a refrigerator not good for them (humidity, air flow)? Would I be better off putting them into my detached garage as is, in the box and not soak until ready to plant? I know, lots of questions lol. Right now, it's early in the morning and they are still in the basement wrapped up in the box. Also, should I put anything into the water if I soak? I purchased Dr. Earth's Rose and Flower Fertilizer for planting and later on (to make a tea). Or is plain water for soaking preferred? Thanks! |

| I would leave them in the box in the basement, but not in the referigerator. Tomorrow before planting you could soak them for a few hours, I would used plain water. |

| Thanks Krista. The basement seemed the best place for them but I wasn't sure. Been a while since I've planted bare root. I think I'll spend the day doing some other garden stuff that needs attention since I'm home. |
