| Yesterday the Gwinnett Rose Society held Rose Day at Brogan Park in Buford. 9am to 1 pm. The weather was a little chilly ( I had a good dusting of snow on my car when we left) but all the roses at the park got cleaned up and pruned. Had a class on bird house building made simple, tool sharping, Master Rosarians answering questions, lot's of food and had a huge raffle. Debbie And I spent $15.00 on tickets and came away with a bundle of stuff. Painted bottle tree, the bird house that was built that morning, a book of The Rose for Today, the Miniflora by Sean McCann, a collectors plate with Aber Queen painted on it and 2 roses. One beautiful bush of Royal Highness (I have been hunting for a good bush of this since 1998) and a big bush of Eugene Furst (HP). It had a tag of Baron Girod de I' Ain on it but the owner said she had not seen the white on the outside of the petals in the three years she has had it. A dead ringer of Eugene Furst which she already grows. Not a bad day at all. |

| It was fun! Great seeing you again Ken and meeting your wife. Here are some pics from the event: I came away with two of the garden structures, the large pyramid and the red one. The two on the left were hand made by one of our members out of Crepe Myrtle Prunings. I also won 2 Pearl D'Ors in the raffle. I know they are small, so I'm thinking of where I can put them adjacent to each other as a nice matched pair. Oh, and a $25 gift certificate for Palantine. They are sold out of anything I want, so I'll wait till next year. So I spend $25 in tickets and had a great return! We also had some new members come and learn about roses, what roses they should plant and other advice. And don't forget the tool sharpening! |
