I ordered from Hortico for the first time this year. I hesitated, because I had read some not-so-great things about them here. But they were the only source I could find for Cerise Bouquet, a rose that I adore but unfortunately lost to RRD a year ago. So I ordered that and Sir Paul Smith, a climber from Amanda Beales. Well, they arrived yesterday - huge healthy looking things! As good as anything I ever got from Pickering, and frankly better than what I got from David Austin last year. Of course, it remains to be seen if they really are the correct roses (although the CB canes certainly look thorny, like my old plant's were!) but in the short term I'm very pleased. So I feel Hortico deserves a good review from me!

Well, that's good to hear, thanks. I confess disappointment in this year's shipment from Pickering, but I don't mean to bad-mouth them. In the long run, they've been an invaluable resource.

I hope all of the plants are true to name, Frances. This is where Hortico often leaves a lot to be desired. Big, strapping plants are great, as long as they are correctly labeled!

My experience with Hortico was always very reasonable. I order from them 2-3 plants every year for the last 10 years and (knock on wood) never had a mislabled plant. I don't hesitate to order from them. They carry some roses that are not available in other places. My only problem with them is that sometimes rose can be not available, but you will know about it much later, not at the time of ordering. So you can miss opportunity to order from other place. But for roses that are only available at Hortico, this is not really an issue. Olga Olga

I received my Hortico order today, and I too was pleasantly surprised. I ordered 5 roses from them (I thought it was 4, but I checked my original invoice and five is correct...woohoo!) and all five arrived nice and healthy. Like everyone else, I just hope the varieties are correct...I do NOT want to end up with 5 Iceburgs! Michael G, I've placed orders with Pickering in the past and have been very happy. Last Fall I placed two orders; one for Fall and one for Spring. I have to say, the plants in my spring order were about half the size of the ones in my Fall order, which was disappointing (only 2 of 6 were discounted for being "smaller plants"). From now on (at least with Pickering) I'll be requesting my shipments in the Fall. But, I definitly still love them as a bareroot nursery! Tammy

I have bought many roses from Hortico and if you call them with problems promptly, they will replace bad roses. I had some that were all but doa and they replaced them for free. I did get tired of the long back-order delays (years with some never being sent). RpR

My first time ordering from Hortico this spring - they sent two healthy roses, well packed and delivered on time. I was very happy and plan to order again w/o hesitation.
