ultra shiny leaves on my rose bush

In the last few days the leaves on an established rose bush (red flower carpet) have turned very shiny as though they were sprayed with furniture polish. The bush appears healthy but I've never had this happen and know it must mean something but I don't know what. Please help, thanks.
