Does anyone have any experience with this rose? There aren't any pictures on Helpmefind.

At the 2010 Rose Trials for the World Rose Association in Rose Hills, it won the Golden Rose of Rose Hills Award, as well as the Gold Medal. Check it out at: www.worldrose.org.

In this year's Hroizon Roses, a reviewer said it is "very free blooming with many potential nice blooms."

Thanks snowheather. I wonder if it has much of a fragrance.

It was a test rose from a few yrs ago. Several of us who got the test roses had ours die before we could see it. In fact, it just never broke dormancy. I didn't ask for a replacement, but I think John in Missouri did. If I recall, he wasn't impressed at all. I'm trying to remember if the second one he got grew and he didn't like it, or if it also never broke dormancy. All I know is I'm not wasting my money on it!

I am going to try it, even though I really don't have room. I have always been impressed with the Rose Hills results and have many of their previous winners. This rose is grafted, not own root like it was as a test rose. Plus, I am getting it potted from North Haven in Dallas, so it already will have leafed out. I don't care all that much if it has exhibition form, as my primary interest is on having beautiful blooms in my garden and to give to others.

I'll post pics in the fall, although it often is hard to tell about a rose the first year, as you know.

Check for pictures under its test name "jacelvet.". I think I may have a few on helpmefind. I've had it since it was a test rose. It doesn't have much fragrance. Very deep red velvety petals, long stems, and lasts forever in a vase. Very disease and blackspot restitant. It is slow to break dormancy but have patience. Hardy to at least zone 5 with no protection.

I grew it this year, nice deep red, set lots of buds, quite vigorous. But it is not BS resistant, its full of BS from top to bottom, and I sprayed it a few extra times. The worst of any I grow.

I had one several years ago and BS was the reason I Sp'd it. I did like the blooms.
