Seen or Grown These? Cubana et al

Rita Levi Montalcini
Cubana
Easter Basket
Sebastian Kneipp
Carding Mill

As a rule I never buy a rose I haven't seen in person but have fallen for these thanks to recommendations and (mostly) photos on hmf. The exception is the Barni rose Rita Levi Monalcini-- I saw here in Richmond VA at the Lewis Ginter Botanical garden. I fell for her on the spot.

Good repeat, reasonable resistance, manageable size are on my list.

My garden includes many Earthkind roses and antiques so one thing I look for from modern roses is to broaden the palette colorwise.

Barbara, I wish I could be of help. I grow Sebastian Kneipp, but have only had it a few months so can add nothing there either.

Have you purchased these already or are they on a short list? I've heard Cubana is very disease resistant and a great bloomer, but that's hearsay only.

Of those, the only one I know is Easter Basket. It's a really good rose here. Would recommend it over anything else I have in that color class, so go for it.

Kathy, took your advice! Rita Levi, Cubana, and Easter Basket will be here in about 2 weeks.
The colors of Easter Basket remind me of a rose I haven't seen in YEARS-- Garden Party, remember it?
I didn't add ANYTHING last year so I'm just thrilled to have these coming.

Think you will love Easter Basket, and yes, the colors are reminiscent of Garden Party, although Easter Basket may start out a bit more pale yellow. I can't speak with complete authority, but I had Easter Basket a couple years ago--one lovely bloom cycle, and it came down with RRD, so I had to spade it. It stuck in my memory strong enough that I re-ordered it for this spring and am really looking forward to it.

One reason I picked it originally was its disease-resistance. Hope that proves to be true -- and that RRD doesn't attack my yard again--ugh to that!

I have carding mill and it would fit your criteria. It blooms entire bush at a time in flushes of 50-75, then stars again almost immediately. very disease resistant for me here in Pittsburgh. The scent is listed as myrrh but smells a bit like cherry vicks 44-d to me. Heres my fav pic i've ever taken of my roses . On a morning after a rain. hope it works.

Thanks for the great photo of Carding Mill. Am a bit sorry I didn't get Carding Mill this time, since it is fragrant & the other 3 aren't. Well maybe Rita Levi M. will prove a bit fragrant, hope hope!
I have two Austins in this color range already, Tamora and Jude the Obscure. Both are great but in adding I decided I wanted to get one from Kordes and one from Barni.
We have to decide somehow don't we!
I am always on the fence about choosing the most resistant rose vs the most fragrant. Pretty tall fence huh.
