Thinking about putting an order with them for a few hard to find mini's. Someone is ordering from them because they are out of a lot of roses. What can I expect?? I hope they will be better then Burlington or Heirloom. Someone please fill me in on their roses.

Out of curiosity, Ken, "better than Burlington and Heirloom", how? Quality of plant, shipping and packing, pricing, availability, service? Kim

RE: Two Sisters Roses

I got TINY bands from both last spring. Lost 4 out of 10. And I babied the crap out of them. What I'm seeing from them in quart size pots this spring is what should have been sent in the first place. I've received roses from Angel Gardens in quart size pots that are twice the size as what has survived from the other two vendors. I saw a post about different size roses received this spring and those 3 tiny twigs are what I received from both vendors. I don't expect fully grown roses in bloom but I would like something with roots on it. Last spring when my orders came in (on the same day) Kristin was out of the pot with all the soil. When I gently removed it, the tiny thing had 1 little root hanging from the bottom. I potted it back up expecting it to die but it survived. I'm not to wild about spending one entire rose season trying to get something to survive that shouldn't have been sent in the first place.

I don't think I have ever lost a plant from Heirloom, even when I ordered them in summer.

Two Sisters are okay, the plants aren't as big as Chamblees or Roses Unlimited but bigger than Heirloom. They sent me a mislabled rose and I had no problem with getting the correct rose. I would recommend them. :)

I understand Ken. As I commented on the other thread about what you get for your money, that's something that is going to vary greatly variety to variety, nursery to nursery and year to year. I wrote Heirloom off back in the early nineties for a number of reasons, too small, too immature and unrooted plants as well as chronically mislabled plants and the way they didn't take care of the issues being three of several reasons. I understand they're better at many of the issues, but the whole situation was awful enough that I won't support them with my money. Having known and grown Burlington's plants for MANY years (first as Sequoia, then as her own), I realize there can sometimes be issues but they've always been taken care of perfectly and on average, the plants have been excellent. I hope you let each know the issues and gave them a chance to respond. Kim

I'm with you Ken! I know when I order bands, sometimes I'll have to baby them & repot them into larger containers so that they survive, but they should at least be rooted fairly well. The one's I posted on the other link were sold as 1 gallon roses, and what I received were tiny little barely rooted cuttings. Luckily, the vendor agreed to refund the charges for the 3 that I truely don't think will make it based on the amount of dieback they've already had...but you never know.

You'll have to let us know how it goes with Two Sisters. I have an order that I placed last fall for 3 roses. I really wanted the striped mini Life Lines, and they were the only ones who had it in stock, so I added Nozomi and Charles Austin to fill the box.

As for Burlington and Heirloom, I've never had a bad experience with either. Their roses are smaller, but they've been healthy for me. Burling even threw in two free ones on my order because one was tiny and the other was a substitute for one she was out of. Great customer service!

And I'm a huge fan of Angel Gardens. Pam is WONDERFUL! She's one of the vendors that will let you know if you're going to receive a "big rose" or a "small rose" before you order. In the past, she's even charged me a qt price on a smaller gallon.

Ken, I'm a repeat customer of Two Sisters. Every mini I've ordered from them has been excellent; large, well-rooted and very healthy. I wouldn't hesitate to place an order with them. I don't winter-protect, and I've yet to lose any Two Sisters mini. I'd order with confidence; you'll not regret it.

Have you checked the usual place for comments? I ordered from them a few years back. For some reason I can't remember now, I was frustrated trying to contact them after I received the wrong rose. I never could reach them. The rose grew fine and if it had been the right one I would have been a happy camper. I'd order from them again I guess if they were the only ones who carried a rose I wanted. I just don't like it when I can't contact the vendor easily to resolve problems or ask questions.....Maryl

Rec'd my order today...here's a pic. I forgot their website said they ship without pots..lol...but I know Well's Midsouth Roses does that too and they're fine once they get repotted...just make sure you have empty pots on hand :)

Those look to be pretty nice roses. If they have a root system to match the amount of soil I see, I'd say you did very well indeed. Certainly better then alot of the twiglets I've gotten from another source....Maryl

Those do look nice, Tammy. I've ordered from Two Sisters before and I don't remember mine being so nice. They must have improved their product!
