Climbing rose questions

Hi, I'm a rose newbie. As with most of you Iowa has been experiencing near-record highs, with no end in sight. I'd like to plant a climbing rose by the east wall of my house (which is on the street side).

Is it too late to plant bareroot or should I get something in a pot?

If it's in a pot should I plant it now or wait till all danger of frost is past?

What's an easy rose for a beginner? Disease-free, etc. I'd prefer something not pink or white, but a little more bold in color.

No, it is not at all too late to plant bare root roses now. This is exactly the time you want to plant them. The weather is still cooler and damper giving them the best chance to get established before it gets too hot and dry later in the season.

As for what would be good in your area you should see if you can contact your local rose society and see what they would suggest. They'll know best what is healthy and hardy in your area. You can find a list of local societies on the American Rose Society web site.
