Centennial Star is not a new rose. It was registered and introduced by Meilland in 1996. It does have beautiful color, but if it has strong fragrance for you that is a bonus since Meilland has always said it just has slight fragrance. Enjoy your great new rose.

Has anyone grown this rose in the humid South? I live in Louisiana where Blackspot is always a problem. Harton

Centennial Star was new for me this year here in hot, humid Alabama, and I've been very pleased with it so far. Mine is in all day full sun and has shown good heat tolerance. It has been a good bloomer for a first year rose, and they are absolutely gorgeous blooms with a very strong fragrance. They start off a golden yellow with reddish pink edging, but fade fairly quickly to a softer yellow/pink mix. The blooms do last a long time on the bush and as a cut flower. I spray my HTs as needed, so can't really say how disease resistant it would be no spray. It stayed clean with about once a month spraying here. Again, I've only had it since February, so can't really say how it will do long term, but not bad for its first year in my garden. Here are some pics showing the color from first opening to sun bleached:

Lovely! Always good to add one to the "when I buy 10 acres" list! And always good to know your thoughts Pat, since we're "neighbors". Susan

Hi Michaela, We planted CS in our present home around 3 years ago. This is a spectacular rose in our garden and it produces enormous flowers in the fall,at least 6 inches across. I grew it when it first came out around 15 years ago in a different location. I know some criticized the fragrance of this rose, calling it "phenolic". The leaves are dark green and waxy and does not suffer from any foliar diseases that I can remember. The plant itself is vigorous and grows around 5 feet high and across. When I bring flowers in to the lab at work, most of the lab technicians think the blossoms are wonderful.
