Well, they really aren't, but I've decided to get some weeper hoses and a timer. I can manually shut off the timer and water myself, I actually enjoy doing that in the spring sometimes, but in midsummer when it can be 105 outdoors, sometimes I'll put off watering when I shouldn't.
If I only have so much energy to go around every day, I don't necessarily want to use it standing out in the blazing heat. Hopefully this will work.

I use soaker hoses in all my gardens. I can't do drip because of where the beds are located so I put the soakers down and use quick connects with the hose. I don't bury them though. I did that the first time and then proceeded to chop them all up every time I went to dig. They're just on the surface. It's worked fairly well.
