Thankfully, 2 of my 3 holes were dug, I wasn't expecting them until this weekend! We have a forecast of snow, rain & ice for tonight so I soaked them immediately. A couple of hours later, I am planting my bareroots like mad....in the snow which began on my last rose burial. I hope I didn't rush the job too much or I just killed my Lady of Shalott, Munstead Wood & Barbra Streisand :( I found some patches of clay that were a bit too wet & didn't crumble at all. I hope since it isn't all clay, they will be ok. Leaves are piled on top & my fingers are crossed. I wish I had a picture, what I must have looked like to all of those driving by, staring! :)

How exciting--planting in the snow. I assure you--we've all probably done that one time or another! You will love your Shalott and Munstead! Streisand is gorgeous also. Kae

Done that before…will do it again. No problem…all was fine with leaf mulch. Beautiful spring roses! Lesley

Rene, Roses actually love clay soil for its richness. I have Houston black clay where I live and I don't amend for aeration or drainage. My Austins are puttering along like champs. The clay actually helps with water retention I've found so the soil stays moist like they enjoy. We've all been the crazy gardener at some point! Josh

I'm not sure I'd be intrepid enough to plant in the snow, lol! I wish you the best of luck and can't wait to hear how they do.

Glad I'm not alone in the snow. :-) ... & that the roses still have a chance of survival. I would love it if these grow into strong beauties!
