Effect of of a 25 degree Hard Frost

Looks like the hard frost did a number on Falling in Love--the fresh new growth got fried, so I won't be getting any early blooms from that bush. But, there are lots of good leaves on the bush, so I doubt that the plant is seriously injured. But, perhaps due to somewhat wet soil that kept the plants well hydrated, the foliage damage seems to be rather light--much less than I normally get from trying to put protective hardware cloth over the bushes for protection from Eastern Cottontails. On Hannah Gordon, I saw some dark center type damage the day of the freeze, after I came home from work.

We've had some pretty cold temps the last few nights. I haven't checked my Falling In Love so I need to go see if it's OK. I know it's one that can be winter tender. Thanks for the heads up.

It depends on how many hours it was that cold. And yes, a well hydrated plant will do better.

Some of my roses never really did well after our disastrous 2007 Easter freeze. You can't really tell the day after, you have to wait to see how far down the damage goes. I had to wind up cutting down most of my roses to about 18 inches. Everything else was black and dead.
