| Last Saturday (March 1st) was Rose Day at Brogan Park for the Gwinnette Rose Society. Time to prune all the roses at the County Park. Plus we spend the day talking roses with the general public. I really enjoy talking roses with people. To top off everything, we have a rose raffle. Nothing huge, maybe about 30ish roses. 6 tickets for $5. I bought $10 worth of tickets. There were 5 roses I really wanted. Bengerman Britton, Tropicana, Knock Out (original), Rosa Rugosa Alba and the mini Odessa. All of these rose's were well established bush's in 3, 5 and 7 1/2 gal. pots. I scattered my tickets amoung the 5 roses and waited. I was hoping for at least one bush. When all was said and done I went home with Tropicana, Knock Out, Rosa Rugosa Alba and Odessa.Tropicana was the monster. Three huge canes with 2 basil breaks just getting started. I had to put the back seats down in my SUV and lay it down to get it home. Not a bad day for $10. |

| Hi Ken, here are some pictures from our Rose Day: Here are the roses for raffle: Here we are learning how to open roses for show that's Ken in the hat:
I actually won 4 of the same rose, Madame Plantier. I gave 2 away and have two to plant. I also won a swamp rose. And I gave away two roses I wanted to shovel prune. Perfectly fine roses, but now they will be in someone else's garden. And I had my pruners and loppers sharpened and we hopefully have some new members. All in all a good day. |
