| Any thoughts on this one for SoCal
Thinking climbing on the front of a north facing garage. Not a lot of direct sun until it gets higher-but bright reflected light all day. No real over hang on the roof of this vintage garage. The garage is all white and needs some color, mom loves purple and the apple scent would be a reminder of the old apple tree that finally died in the corner this rose would go on. |

| It's a Tom Carruth rose, which should do well for you Kippy. We grow his Fourth Of July, and also Berries and Cream -- and both are good here in Camarillo. We saw photos of it in a talk Tom gave last winter, and my husband has been lusting after it. Not that we have anyplace to plant it. Jeri |

| I have Purple Splash & love it. It's healthy & the blooms are great. I don't know about growing it on a north facing wall though - mine is in full sun. |

| It's a great rose. Every bit as good as Fourth of July. Perhaps more vigorous. Like all roses, it would prefer full sun, though, so I am not so enthused about that "north-facing wall." Sounds like a good place for a camellia. |

| Actually, our Fourth of July has grown up against the south side of a 10-ft. retaining wall (only afternoon sun) since the first year it was released. It's never achieved the size I think FoJ can potentially make, but it puts out one flush after another until late Fall, and has no disease. In its day, it provided sprays for exhibition. So I suspect Kippy, in a very similar climate with less alkalinity, can pull that off nicely. Jeri |

| I think one is coming home with me tomorrow... It going to be in a large pot with no bottom on it if it likes the spot (so it can grow down in to the soil below, but can start in better soil. If it seems unhappy with the limited sun, I have a new entry arch it would be good on and Mom could see it from the kitchen window which would make her happy. Betting Mom takes one look and wants it on the arch instead. More sun there. |

| It's good here too. Give it 3 years to really produce. Climbers take their time getting established. |
