I Planted my first rose bush about 2 months ago,the tag said it was suppose to be a mr.Lincoln. Well It has bloomed twice and it appears to be a red wild rose kinda. It is a flat Flower ,only 2 layers of petals and a yellow center.what has gone wrong...I don't know.I am discouraged and disappointed.I was hoping for a big beautiful Rose and instead I got a flat regular Flower. Whats the Deal? Please someone give me an explanation. thanks Tray

You obviously planted a budded rose. This means, the roots are most likely the rose Dr. Huey with Mr. Lincoln budded to it. What appears to have occurred is your Mr. Lincoln died but the root stock grew and has flowered. Or, there may still be some Mr. Lincoln left, but it isn't as vigorous as the Dr. Huey. You should be able to see a bud union between where the roots are and the canes grow from the shank. It will almost look like a knee. Anything growing from below that union is root. Above that swelling/bud union or knee would be Mr. Lincoln. Don't be disheartened. You probably didn't do anything "wrong", it just happens sometimes. Take a look at this site. It's from a reputable nursery and has a photograph of a budded rose bush. It will show you what you should be seeing and help you figure out what part may be Mr. Lincoln and what part is the root. You'll have to copy and paste it in your browser window. http://www.regannursery.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/home.anatomy/index.ht m Then, you can click on the link below to be taken to Help Me Find - Roses where you can see photos of your possible root stock, Dr. Huey. Once you have the problem diagnosed, it's easy to accomplish a cure. Good luck! Kim

Where did you buy it? Was it in a pot or in a plastic bag? Since it's so new if it is Dr. Huey and not Mr. Lincoln I'd call the store and see what they will do for you. A lot of places will give you a replacement or a refund.

Seil has a good point - it certainly doesn't sound like Mister Lincoln. I'm not sure that it's Dr. Huey showing up so soon, but I suppose it could be. In either event, you should be able to get your money back. Mister Lincoln is in enough demand that you should be able to get it from a reputable rose supplier - maybe not this late, but next year, for sure.

I would imagine you should be able to find it in most garden centers as a bud and bloom plant. In the canned rose world, Lincoln is a staple, just like milk, eggs, bread and butter are in markets. Kim
