Black Baccara Easter Bloom

I bought this rose in a body bag last year.
Isn't exactly a vigorous grower.
Very hard for my phone to capture the true colour. And in all honesty it shows its true colour and texture best when the picture is taken with flash at night.
This bloom is the darkest yet and biggest.

A good thing to keep in mind is that this rose looks much more black as the distance increases. From more than two feet away it genuinely looks black in this stage.
I'm interested to see how this bloom ages.

The bud photo was this morning before I went to my mother's house.

I picked the rose just a few moments ago.

I put it in a tiny teapot. It has really short stems.

    From the front.
It's so black its hard to capture.
My phone makes it all very flat and dark like in the bud photo.
Or very washed out and bright red in sun....which it is not.
That's why I have so many flash photos.
Maybe if I had a good camera.

    Thank you!

I'm so frustrated! No matter what I do pictures of this rose are terrible!

I think your photos convey the beauty and uniqueness of this rose! Perhaps it isn't quite "the real thing". But it sure is amazing.
    Just gorgeous!
    Any fragrance?

    Thank you!

Fragrance? Yes. A very slight nutty tea fragrance.
But honestly I have a keen sense of smell and I'm pretty sure it would be negligible to most people.
    So no? Lol.

    The bloom has opened more.
It's lost much of its "black" but remains a very very dark red.

I'm a little shocked. I've been viewing people's photos for it and it's not nearly as dark as it is in my yard.

The form on this bloom is terrible though.

You must have a good camera. While I don't have 'Black Baccara' myself, I do have a few other very dark reds, and photos taken on my iPhone never do them justice. Looking at pics on HelpMeFind of other dark reds, I have come to realize that color depictions aren't always accurate. You, however, have managed to capture yours just right!

aquaeyes - Red, Oranges, yellows. They all look terrible in pictures to me.
No good camera. Just my phone. And clever manipulation of its settings and the lighting to try and capture the truest colour.

Canadian rose - Black baccara can be truly black. Though I have to say I've seen photos as of late where it's quite the opposite in their yard. It seems to appear just as any other red would here.
But in my yard out seems to be striving to achieve its blackest black.

    Gorgeous isn't it?

I was looking at it in the light of the sunrise, and thought I would snap a picture.
It's lost much of its black, and has taken on the very dark red tone.
    It should remain this colour.
But I'm pleased to say. I actually managed to capture true to life colours in this photo.
Probably because the bloom had lightened so much.
