climbing rose for part sun

Greetings. I'm from Indianapolis area. I have built a wide trellis that narrows at the top between 2 windows at a height of around 14'. (i may try to figure out how to attach a picture here) I had just started growing ivy there and was kindly reminded that it will eventually destroy the brick so ripped it out. I want to put some type of climbing rose here. I'd guess direct sunlight is maybe 3 hrs. It's on the East side of house. Around noon, the sun goes over the house and no more sun. Can someone recommend something for me? The soil is clayish...uh, but I can replace this with anything as it would not be a big job. Thank you

From my experience, east exposure is the prefered exposure for roses. I should think you are fine with any selection you want, presuming this early am exposure is not blocked by trees or structures?

Too, ivy will destroy the bricks in about 200 years. But, I would prefer roses any day!!

I am in Texas, so climate is different, and you didn't mention a color. So, I really don't know what to advise you, but I think MANY roses would do quite well.

For a great exposure like that, I would be tempted to look at David Austin's roses. Golden Celebration is a lovely yellow that even says partial shade. There are too many to list, but let us know colors and shapes.

Enjoy!!
