As usual you all know what your talking about. I asked when to prune and you said wait until late April early May in my area. I couldn't wait so I went ahead and pruned a couple of roses and now they look terrible. The rest look OK and are blooming. So, question: When to prune the rest now that they are blooming, I want to prune out small stuff and I have some black spot so I'm going to start spraying for that. Most are HT with some floribundas. As usual all suggestion and advice is appreciated. Pembroke

After the first flush, you can prune back quite a bit. I wasn't able to prune most of my roses before they budded, so I just waited till after they bloomed and am now cutting back what I want. You can cut off dead or damaged canes anytime.

I pruned early and they're doing OK but I did get a lot of blind growth and had to re-prune some anyway. Like buford said, when they finish blooming you can go in and prune as hard as you need or want to and no harm done.
