| Pruned a rose for the first time, now plenty of red foliage slowly turning green but no buds is this normal? Also what is a basel break? |

| If you just pruned it, it is trying to replace the leaves, etc. prior to blooming. In CA, most of us do any pruning in Jan/Feb, but do not worry. You did not hurt it, just made it want to grow more. I would just leave it alone now, make sure it has plenty of water, and wait. A basel break is a new cane from the very bottom of the plant. Very good thing. Jackie |

| As Jackie said, you just sent it a signal to do more growing so not worry. It will take a few weeks before there will be enough new growth, at a mature enough age, to produce a bud. Basal breaks are new canes that come up from the roots of an own root rose. It is also loosely defined as new canes from the bottom, bud union, of a grafted rose. Either way they are a good thing! |

| Thank you both, I do keep it watered and added mulch on soil , It was a container bush 'dreams come true' that had big gorgeous blooms, so will be patient and wait. |
