| There are two quite different products on the market bearing the name "neem". The original product is simply an alcohol extract of neem seeds. This product contains azadirachtin, which has been demonstrated to be an insect antifeedant as well as an insect growth regulator. It is this product that made neem famous. Perhaps unfortunately, neem products of this type have become rare. None of the stores around here, such as Lowes, Home Depot or the local nurseries carry neem products which contain azadirachtin. The second neem product on the market is labeled "hydrophobic extract of neem". It is simply an extract of the neem seed residue after all the azadirachtin has been removed. Bonide's Neem Oil Concentrate and Greenlight's Neem Concentrate are products of this type. These products are simply plant oils and like most plant oils, they can serve as contact insecticides and fungicides for both mildew and rose blackspot. When actually tested for these purposes against other, cheaper, oils such as canola or horticultural oils, neem oils usually provide less control. |

| I've tried using it, but I can't stand the smell. I want to be able to sniff my roses and smell, well, roses, not neem oil. |
