Coral Dawn is a lovely rose, in my opinion. It's definitely on the thorny side, but it has a very nice scent, and I think the blooms are charming. I grow it because my Grandmother's name was Coral, and I learned to grow roses from her.

I also grew Royal Gold. The colour is a very rich yellow just like Roberta Bondar. There aren't many climbers with the same rich yellow. That is the good news. It didn't grow very tall and it wasn't generous with the flowers. I seem to remember I kept it because of the fragrance. However it finally went out of the garden. If you see Roberta, she is a very good and hardy yellow climber. Here is a photo of Royal Gold.

Roberta Bondar by Cavallo

I have 'Coral Dawn' and 'Roberta Bondar'. 'Coral Dawn' has been hardy for me in zone 5, if not as vigorous as it would be in a warmer climate. 'Roberta Bondar' is so far the only good yellow repeat blooming climber for cold climates I know of. Maybe some of the newer Kordes yellows would suit. I am trying 'Zintronfalter' this year, but I think it is more of a bush than a climber.

The 'New Dawn' descendants seem to me to need rather more water than is available in desert conditions and I suspect they are at their best in zones 6-8.
