Merechel Niel, soft yellow Noisette, is fabulous in every way in warm climates.

'Marechal Niel' is lovely. The flowers nod so you can look up at the arbor and they will be looking down at you... |

I have Marechal Niel and it is not that good for me. Absolutely enormous with tremendous hooked thorns and it only blooms once for me. The spring bloom is good, but overall I don't feel that it is worth the prime real estate. I plan to move it this year (when I get my courage up....) chellamaral, I will soon be posting pics of my Climbing Pinky to a thread on the Florida Forum. Mine has been in the ground for 8 months and is above the edge of my patio roof. It is blooming nearly continuously in huge clusters of a nice pink. Nearly thornless and starting to bloom at its lower canes, too! Veronica, west central Florida.

I lived in Port St Lucie for 11 yrs and grew pretty good roses. Retired and moved to the N.GA. mountains in 09. I had a yellow climber on my back fence that did great. Casino. Cool Roses right down the road (Palm Beach) should have it. They have a good web site. Check them out and give them a call. You'll be glad you did.

Marechal Niel is so,so lovely, but then again I love all those climbing noisettes. Lots of whites and yellows in various gradings to choose from. In my experience, some are thorny (Marechal Niel and Buff Beauty), others less so(Lamarque and Mme Alfred Carriere), some barely have milk teeth (Crepuscule, but it's more apricot-ish). Easy to grow in a warm climate, fragrant, and most will flower regularly between big seasonal flushes. Mine treat any teensy bit of blackspot like the minor inconvenience of a broken fingernail. First rose I ever planted was a Mme Al. When she climbed halfway up her arbor in the first year, I thought, boy, nuthin' to this rose growing business. Then I bought some hybrid teas, and learned otherwise...

I just ordered one CL Maman Cochet (Pink), two Reve d Or, and one CL White Maman Cochet from Rose Petals. The pickings were slim, but really looking forward to getting them.
