| Eeek! There are two (unidentifiable) rose bushes my mother planted a few years back. She just watered and mulched them without pruning, maintaining, etc. Anyway, I'd like to care for them from now on, but don't have much experience with gardening in general. There are several suckers, I'm sure of, but was wondering if someone could take a look to see if they could, indeed, identify them. Of course, it's not always easy just by looking at a photo, but thought I'd try, anyway. The first two are of the same plant. The second is not. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. | Those don't look like suckers to me. What it looks like is an established, grafted rose where the graft was planted under ground, and the rose has possibly gone own-root. |
|
| Suckers would be root stock that has come up on a grafted rose or an own root rose that sends up a shoot from the roots at some distance from the main plant. I think Mad has it right. That's the graft sending up new canes from below ground. |

| Wow that gives me even more hope for my OLD OLD Peace rose. |
