How should I plant this

| Hi everyone,
I have a rose cutting that I took last fall and I am hoping to plant it soon. The problem is that it's a very odd shape, a long stem and then leaves at the very tip as you can see in the picture. What is a good way to plant this. I thought maybe if I buried half of the stem, so that it wouldn't be so tall and lanky. I have no idea why it grew this way either but I think it would be pretty prone to damage due to the shape.
Thanks everyone, Maude:) |

I'd dig a long hole and lay the bare stem in it. I'd leave just the portion with the leaves above ground. When finished set the bear next to it to protect it from deer and rabbits. |

| Bury the answering machine under it for warmth as well. |

| I'm just a little leery of burying all that cane under the soil. It could send up new shoots but it could also rot from the dampness. |

| Plant it at the same level as it is in the pot. After it sends up new basals, probably some time next year, you can reshape the bush by pruning that cane down. |

| Hi everyone, I found this old post because I just wanted to update everyone on this plant. It is in the garden now and doing incredibly well. I guess it's the intense sun, or all the bags of manure, but something forced all the other bud eyes to start growing, and the whole thing filled out. Here is a pic.. If you look on the right, you can see that strange long cane from the original picture. I'm slowly trimming it away. Maude
