Hi, All,

I think I will ask blatantly in this forum, instead of doing more research.

I am looking for
- very dark red rose
- very fragrant
- desease resistant
- good form (could stand the heat, good shape, long lasting vase life)
- preferrably hybrid tea

rose. :-) Haha... I know it is a lot of criteria?
Could you think of one? My garden is very full. I have to be picky.

Fang

Firefighter - great rose. You won't be disappointed

Black Magic is as dark red as you'll find and it loves your area. Bush grows good and it pumps out the blooms.

Black magic would get my vote, but there is no fragrance in my yard.

I have Taboo/Barkarole on multiflora rootstock and it's a lovely dark red to nearly black without doing the purple-ick-fade. Disease resistance is pretty good for me, but it has only normal scent; nothing heady or deep. I think its form is beautiful. Seems very similar to Black Magic.

Were you looking for the nearly black reds or the vibrant, primary reds? Firefighter is gorgeous too, but to me it looks like more of a primary red.

'Barcelona' aka 'Francis Dubreuil'.

Fragrant, good disease resistance here, dark, dark red. You may need to provide afternoon shade and avoid areas with reflected light and heat. Dark red flowers tend to crisp badly in warm weather.

Rosa 'Barcelona'

'Black Bacarra' is also very very dark, with good disease resistance here, but no fragrance at all.

Just fwiw, "Francis Dubreuil" is mildewy near the coast, and not strong growing there. might be better, budded.
