I whined a few months back that I have killed Pope John Paul II time and time again, and I don't remember who suggested it, but I received the advice to buy from Rogue Valley rather than Jackson and Perkins. I must have killed four J & P PJPII, and now I have three thriving beautiful PJPIIs just a few months after I put them in. Thanks a bunch.

I got my PJP II (Weeks) at a local nursery. I believe Weeks grows for JP. It came in a mini pot and has done very well. I have fewer roses and I like to choose the bush that I am going to buy. I bought three bare root by mail last year. They were disappointing when they arrived, but two have done well. I shovel pruned Double Delight.

DrPekeMom, Please keep us posted on how your ownroot PJP2's do over time.

Just a heads up.. PJPII is not a very vigorous grower and not a very large plant for a HT. And being own root instead of grafted it will be slower to grow for you. Own root roses always take little longer to mature. Be patient with it.

I planted a grafted PJPII this past winter and so far it is beautiful and healthy. I love it and I'm not that into hybrid teas. But, it remains to be seen if it will survive the summer; that is the real test of roses here, I think.

Jasper, it should do well. Mine always performs it's best when it's the hottest here. It really hates my cool springs and falls and rarely grows much or blooms until at least July. And those nice thick petals open very reliably in any humidity. It's the only white HT I've ever had luck with in my humid Great Lakes area.
