hello I am new here. this is the first post I have done here even thou I have been reading this forum for about a month. I just got two Julia child yellow roses from Jackson perkins. they are small and in two quart pots. they look to small to plant in the ground. would it be good to put them in containers and let them grow for the summer and get bigger roots then in the fall plant them in the ground. thanks I look forward to reading more and looking at some of the great pictures I see of other roses.

I got mine in February and planted it in the little peat pot it came in. Mine is turning into a beast.

My Julia Child (Called Absolutely Fabulous over here) established itself and took off rather quickly. I'd put your rose in the ground unless you have environmental concerns. M

My Julia Child also grew very quickly, and it's been quite healthy since I planted it a year ago.

Take them out of the pots they're in and plant them in the ground now. They are not too small. They will have a better chance of growing and establishing a large root ball to carry them through their first winter if you plant them now. If you wait until fall there's always a chance that they won't be established enough before the cold sets in. If it's anything like this last winter it came early and was relentless.
