Dorothy perkins rose care

I believe I have the name correct, a friend gave me a start of this vigorous rose a couple of yrs ago, it grew out of control.
Now that we're nearing spring, should I cut it back severely, just a little or leave it alone? After flowering, I am constantly cutting it back, it grows so fast and is so unruly!

Its a once blooming rambler. Please wait until after it blooms to do any pruning or you'll be cutting off the buds. DP wants to be a very large bush. If you're constantly pruning during the summer, you need to think about moving it to a spot where it can swallow a fence line.
