Mom was backing out of the driveway after a visit and ran down the rosemary hedge just missing the little band rose Marie P. I wasn't going to plant her yet and then decided the spring weather has been so nice and the rosemary hedge has grown in to protect her from dogs and soccer balls. It's a great spot out front across from Sugar Moon and a great big lavender. The hedge looks terrible now with the big smashed down side. I tried to trim back to make it look more uniform but it still looks awful. So thankful that the little rose was spared! I saw this plant in person and knew it was just the plant for this spot. I don't usually plant bands right in the soil and I know I would have been mad at myself if this rose had been run over instead of safe in the back with the other bands in one gallon pots.

Oh good for Marie!! My husband (a few years ago) backed up over one of my newly purchased potted rose and dragged it with the car all the way down the street with me yelling, running and waving my arms like a maniac. LOL It was goodbye for Singin' in the Rain. Nice that you say you would have been mad at yourself and not at your mom. I was mad at my husband. :)

OMG Carol, not sure hysteria is the appropriate response, but from your post I had this awesome visual of a cartoon reenactment of the entire scene - the little rose singing it's namesake song down the road...

Kittymoonbeam, I'm glad your MP band was spared! And I bet your mom felt awful! I'm identifying with your smashed down rosemary hedge. Just two weeks ago some drunks in a truck jumped the curb in front of my house and ran down nearly half of my Bordeaux yaupon hollies that border the street bed. Now I have to replace at least 9 of them and they won't look right because they'll be younger than the others. But oh well, that's often what happens when you have symmetry or a row of the same thing. And as if losing the hollies wasn't bad enough, the drunks hit my cast iron mailbox and knocked it and the iron base into the neighbors yard (about 20 feet away) and damaged one of the sprinkler parts - got that replaced yesterday and got the mailbox replaced last Thursday. I left the hollies as they were for a while so I could photograph them showing the dried up/dead parts. The policeman said the judge might make the drunks pay restitution, but it would not be for a long while. At least I have the photos of the shrubs - did that yesterday. Now it's time to find more Bordeaux hollies - I like them because they stay small and get a pretty reddish cast. Sooooo glad they missed my Frances Dubrieul/Barcelona! Now THAT would have made me REALLY angry.
