Black / deep red rose with a WARM undertone

Hi all,

Looking for a deep red (aka black) tall rose with a warm undertone to add to the rose border.
All popular "black" varieties I've seen so far (Black Baccara etc) have a definite bluish/purple tinge to the blooms, which just does not work with other colours in the border.

Any suggestions?

I think most of your real dark reds are a cooler blue tone not a warmer yellow/orange tone. Veterans' Honor is a yellower red but it's also not that deep dark color.

Love's Promise stays a fairly true red for me without "bluing", but it doesn't hold a lot of the "black" as the bloom ages. Buds are very black and blooms open with a very distinct black edging, but by end of the bloom life, it is mostly red. Here's a picture of an aging bloom with only a bit of black left:

Hot Cocoa might also work for you. It really isn't black, at all, but a deep rusty red color, and depending on the weather, can have orangey red tones...no purple or blue tones ever for me.

You might do well looking for roses classed as russet or brown in color. The first that came to my mind was 'Black Tea'. I've never grown it (I'm not partial to those colors), but the HelpMeFind link to its page is below.

You might check out that older favorite Oklahoma--which many describe as a dark red/black on the edges of the petals.

This one sounds like just the thing (for the East Coast)

So many awards - see the awards tab, but we can't have it in the US?

Is Black Magic still available.? I love mine. Stays dark red even in the heat. It never gets bluish. My camera, when I took this picture, didn't capture how dark the red was. It is a med-tall narrow bush for me, lots of blooms.
