Very good newspaper article on rose rosette virus

I am impressed with the following newspaper article:

http://www.post-gazette.com/life/garden/2014/05/10/Not-even-Knock-Out-flowers-can-stand-up-to-rose-rosette-disease/stories/201405100053

After first reading, my only disappointment is that no mention is made of cutting newly infected canes off at ground level (apparently research is still out on this point).

Knockouts are resistant to blackspot. Why would anyone think they would be immune to a virus, a completely different type of disease?

BTW, someone at a rose show told me that Knockouts have RRD in their lineage. I'm not sure that's true, but interesting.

There's no such thing as a rose having RRD/RRv in its lineage.

Whoever said that may have gotten up too early that day to move their rose petals around.

buford, a rose can have cryptic viruses in their lineage since these viruses are passed through the seed.

A cryptic virus has been found in RRV infected multiflora.

I think I read recently that one of the blueberry type viruses that also infects roses and is passed through the seed has been found in RRV infected roses.

Perhaps either of the above is what you heard. Often virus coinfections are much "harder" on a plant's immune system than a single virus infection.

I found the article, It was not blueberry, it was blackberry.

"The case of Blackberry chlorotic ringspot virus (BCRV) is of particular interest because the virus has been found to be an integral part of blackberry yellow vein disease and is widespread in rose plants affected by rose rosette disease."

Ann, apparently it was an 'expert' that gave a seminar at the Greater Atlanta Rose Society. I was at their Rose Show yesterday and one of the members told me about it. I'm sure he either got it wrong or maybe this expert isn't really an expert.

Anyway, I am seeing SO MUCH multiflora this year. It's really scary.
