| Am relying on this site for info as HMF doesn't have any. I would like to place it in front yard if it reblooms quickly and blooms don't shatter in a few days. Suggestions for roses that would complement its color would be helpful along with its width and height.
Thank you. |

I planted Grande Dame last spring, it bloomed quite well from the start, and the blooms lasted what I would call a reasonable amount of time, they did not blow quickly. It did have weak necks on the blooms, but they are big, and I am hoping this year they will be stronger. It's off to a good start this season, no flowers yet but is leafed out ahead of most of my other ht's.

Mossy, yours is beautiful! Do you have roses planted next to GD and if so, what are their colors? Thank you so much for responding.

Klynn24, Grande Dame is living next to Chicago Peace and Gertrude Jekyll, and near Electron, whose color she echoes. Here is a photo of Chicago Peace in front of Grande Dame - even though the background is blurred you can get an idea of how the bush grows.

I have Garden Party planted on one side of my Electron, which is the same color as Grande Dame. Garden Party is ivory with an occasional tinge of light pink on the edges. Do NOT make the same mistake I did and plant a russet or screaming, eye-searing orange next to Grande Dame. I love the Chicago Peace combo shown above.

Thanks so much for your help. It's hard for me to coordinate colors when the blooms have yet to open. Flaurabunda, I've never had a GP that did well so am trying again--have always been drawn to it. I rarely receive many responses to my posts so am over the moon re the info and pictures.

I love the big cupcake blooms of Grande Dame. I have 3 bushes and they are in full bloom...all of the blooms are looking at the ground. the stems are not strong enough to hold up the big fat blooms. I don't know enough about roses to know whether this is a nutritional deficiency or a characteristic of this particular variety.

If you look at the description of the rose in Edmunds catalog you will note that they mention the nodding blooms. It's just the nature of this rose to have large blooms and weak stems. Some might find a certain charm in that.....Lovely picture Mossy......Maryl

Any thoughts on Grande Dame? They have a bunch of them at Home Depot (cheap) and I have an area I don't want to spend much on but need a pop of color.

Mine is new this year, but I really like it so far. Smells amazing!

I can't believe I missed this post! I just got a GD for Mother's Day (a gift to myself haha) and I have been trying to get info on her. She has one bud that is starting to open so I am excited to how she will be :D
