| So my ebb tide is maybe a month or so planted at this point; the blooms that were on it when I planted it were the deep purple that made me fall in love with this plant, but another bud has finally popped out and the color is, well... fuscia.
The scent seems right to my memory, but the color and bloom size seem WAY off. Is that normal for just-planted roses of this type, or is it the rootstock coming through and should I trim the cane? I'm just really not sure what I should do here XD |

| Newly planted roses can look very different from the blooms you'll have later. Just relax for now and let it bloom more, and you should see the real thing in a little while. |

| In hot weather -- lots of sunshine -- poiple roses will almost all turn, well, FUCHSIA. In our relatively-cooler climate, poiples usually remain more or less poiple. But when it gets hot they can shift to screaming fuchsia. I was once DQ'd at a rose show, because the oh-so-knowledgeable judge "knew" that 'Reine des Violettes' was supposed to be fuchsia-pink -- so the lavender thing I had entered must be mis-named. -- YIKES!-- Living far inland, he'd never seen it any color other than fuchsia! That's when I began to realize that even "important" rosarians could be wrong! Jeri |

| If it makes you feel any better, this is one of the first blooms I got off of my Ebb Tide Subsequent blooms have been MUCH darker. I have noticed that they tend to vary quite a bit. |

| Okay good to know! The poor thing just started off with a case of black spot and I was a little worried about the rootstock taking too much energy from it. It has been absurdly hot for may here; it has probably adversely affected the bloom color. And Jerijen, your Reines des Violettes getting DQed is just... so pathetic its hilarious! For pete's sake, it has 'violet' in the name! |

| I have three Ebb Tide bushes, and I have noticed that it has taken about two to three years for them to reach their full potential. The blooms have grown larger, darker, and contain more petals as time goes on. I have one ET than is currently producing almost black purple blooms which I'm nuts about. However, our weather hasn't been particular hot, and those blooms do fade and crisp a lot in the heat. I just wish ET was a better cutting rose. It doesn't last at all in the vase for me. I'm hoping my new Twilight Zone, an offspring of ET, may be a little better about this. Just be patient with your new ET. Diane |
