Sunsprite not looking good, ideas? (picture)

Okay, I planted this one about 10 days ago and it looked like it was doing great until yesterday night / this morning, all of the buds are droopy and sad looking.

Is this a results of over watering or under watering or could it be because the temperatures over the past weekend were unseasonably high (90s)? Help! This one was one of my best and now it looks like it is on the way out :(

Thanks,

It is the hot weather and there is always some interference with the rootsystem when the roses are put in the ground. Keep watering and it helps to provide some shade if possible.

Best of Luck

Oh my.....I know everything's relative, but I'd never describe that rose as looking bad.

It's only 10 days old and your heat is a bit extreme at the moment. Usually people here advise other rose growers to pinch off buds on a newly planted rose in order to encourage root growth. It is a trade-off; pretty blooms now & a compromised root system which can lead to a weaker plant next year, or no blooms for quite a while and a lovely shrub next year.

Usually a bigger, healthier shrub will give you bigger, better blooms. That foliage looks lovely right now, by the way. :)

I would shade it when temperatures get high for the next month or two. It needs to grow some root system to support itself.

Thanks, guys!

I am so upset with myself since after posting this I went and moved the lawn and nipped off a couple of leaves from my poor Sunsprite with the weed whacker, not a lot, I didn't even realize I did it until I was watering the roses after mowing and noticed some 5 petal shoots on the ground! Looking at the photo above, I nipped off the bud on the right and the leaves under it.

So I should just cut off all of these buds right now before they bloom? I know to dead head them after but even before they open? Don't know if I can bring myself to do that but it does make sense about it helping the plant work on roots rather than flowers.

I will see what I can do about some shade. I am actually worried about my front bed roses since I don't think they get enough sun and thought these would be doing much better since they are full sun! So much to learn and figured out just in my own yard!

Hopefully tomorrow the buds won't be drooping since the temperature has cooled down some and it will be in the 40s tonight.

Thanks for listening!

Sunsprite is a notoriously cool-weather rose. It doesn't like summer heat - at all.

Thanks, Rosetom! I did not know that! You are full of good information :)

Today was cool and rainy and it has perked back up. I did nip off all the buds to foster root growth except for one, I just couldn't snip them all!
