A co-worker who knows I'm a rose nut sent me this photo, but couldn't give me further ID. Is this real? If so, do you know what it is? The photo is crazy gorgeous.

gorgeous

There are several that are red with a white reverse but I've never seen one that deep a red or that white a white. It's probably been touched up.

Since this is one of my favorite color combos I have serveral, Snowfire, Fire n Ice, Love and the mini Snow Ruby. There are some others too. I've been looking at getting Acapella. I liked that J&P Merlot which is now called Fairest One but I can't find it anywhere now. It would be really nice if there was one that deep a red!

"It's probably been touched up."

Nothing "probably" about it: I see tell-tale signs (artifacts) of Photoshoppery in that image. You've been hornswaggled!

Yep - the white has been colored in. Looks like a good example of Oklahoma to me. ;-)

I accused him of photoshopping it himself (as he is a VERY good photoshop'er), but he then gave me the link: http://www.bakker-irl.com/product/large-flowered-rose-osiria-/. The bud is interesting...

Go to HelpMeFind roses and look up Osiria.

It is strikingly colored, but it doesn't look like THAT.

Your friend is not as good with photoshop as he thinks....

Better control on the edges and a "softer" "Brush" would have helped the attempt

You know how you say about actresses of a certain age "I'm glad they told me her name, because I wouldn't have recognized her."

Meet the actress of the rose world.

I just googled Osiria, and the first three vendors I pulled up used that exact same picture.

Well, I was going to say ... I hate to eat crow, but perhaps the Photoshopping was just standard photo touch-up to emphasize the traits of the rose. The red is not that dark, and the white not that white. After looking at the Help-Me-Find photos, though, I'm not sure it's just a standard marketing photo "treatment," and the rose pic is real - within a certain context.

My guess is some one was playing in photoshop and did a few quick color changes trying to get the actual rose to more look like what they wanted to see it in their minds. Or for a fantasy look. And then some one else "borrowed" it and now it is all over.

But if you look at HelpMeFind you can see that the actual rose has many similarities but is not the same as this image.

Osiria has been around as a florist's rose in the UK for ages and it does not look like that! Definately, someone has been stepping on the colour and contrast knob.
Nonetheless, it most certainly does have this distinct white reverse but is a bit of a sickly rose, not too vigorous and dies terribly It is, I might add, commonly seen in back of mags special offers, cut-price bulb catalogues and other none too reliable sources for plants. Oh, I also think it would be something of a dog for those of you in hot places.

Well, Paul, I was just trying to be kinder and gentler to harmony and her co-worker, lol.

I wish they wouldn't do these things because it only adds to the myth that roses are hard to grow when people buy them and they don't look anything like these photos. Roses are lovely enough without having to photoshop them. Even the dogs, like my Snowfire, occasionally give you a gorgeous bloom. But it isn't just roses either. We used to call this false advertising but it appears those laws don't exist any more because marketers are doing more and more of this kind of thing with all kinds of products all the time now.
