Ruthless Defoliation

As I said before, my Francis Meilland had rust. This is only the second time that I've used a non-organic substance on my roses. But I had tried just removing the infected leaves, , , it didn't work.
So I sprayed with Bayer Advanced Disease for Roses last weekend. Just this morning (no wind) I very carefully removed all diseased leaves on FM plus some on the roses closeby. I also cleaned up all old leaves from the bed and bagged them all and into the trash.
I had to remove leaves from almost the bottom half of the FM. The others weren't nearly so bad. I will then respray both older beds at about 14 days and see what happens.
If the FM becomes re-infected, he's history.
This rose won awards for being a 'no spray' champion...So far, I had to have one destroyed and NOW, this one has the worst case of 'nobby knees' you've ever seen..It's a good thing that he's at the back of the garden where only the top of the bush can be seen.
