Something is eating my roses

I have a few well established rose in my garden. I just noticed that a few flowers are missing and it looks like someone just ripped the petals off but I doubt that is what happened. I suspect animals are eating them. Bunnies, birds, insects?

Any suggestion on what would be eating the petals?

Dave

Bunnies favor the new growth that is close to the ground, as I can vouch from recent personal experience. Most of my flowers are out of reach of the babies. If the chewing is higher up it must be something larger--any possibility of deer where you are?

If the remaining stems appear cut off at a near perfect 45 degree angle, it is due to a rodent (rat, squirrel, rabbit, etc., though rabbits will concentrate on growth less than two feet from the soil surface. They WILL stand on their hind legs, chew off the cane then eat it from the tips to the base. Been there.) If they appear ripped off, like bitting and tearing, look for deer, horses, cows, etc., unless it is due to a grasshopper or other larger insect. Care to post a photo of the damage to be diagnosed?
