I had been out of town for several weeks, leaving Mother Nature to take care of my roses. This morning I went out to deadhead the Rosarium Uetersen on my curbside trellis and noticed a bird fly off. Peeking through the canes I discovered a nest about five feet off the ground. It was perfectly centered in my 4-post iron trellis. I pulled out my Iphone and took a picture. Later, the mom returned. I took a picture with my good camera and long lens. All is well. I won't be deadheading until the new flock is hatched and on its way!

Great photos of your garden surprise! I have a Mockingbird nest in Albertine on my rambler fence. Mama and Papa Mockingbird have been running themselves silly delivering bugs to the babies.

Beautiful picture! Is it a red chest robin?

How beautiful! I had a robin's nest in my weigela a couple of years ago. I loved watching the babies but mom and pop would dive bomb me if I got too close. That was a weedy bed until they fledged, lol!

We often get birds in our roses. Last year a mockingbird made a nest in Golden Showers, which grows up the side of our porch. She became used to us sitting there.

Had the same experience recently trimming a Carefree Beauty rosebush; and finding a Chipping Sparrow nest with 4 perfect sky-blue eggs.

A pair of robins have nested over my front door two seasons in a row now. The 3 chicks just fledged a few days ago. I charge 100 Japanese Beetles a day, in season, rent. Seriously, I had very little JB damage last summer because the yard is full of birds.

Thanks for sharing these great stories.
Regarding Tapdogly's question. I haven't had a chance to see her chest as she remains nestled in the nest. I'll let you know once the eggs hatch and I get a good look at mom.

I'm sure that's a robin both from the color of the eggs to the head shape, coloring and eye of the mom.

Those were beautiful photos, hup2345. I'm sure your mama is a robin. I love watching them worm hunt in our yard--diving head first into the grass, then stabbing the poor worm over and over as the robin pounds his beak into the ground. Funniest of all, is when robin hops around with a worm hanging half out of his beak. He looks just a tiny bit silly. They are such characters. Diane

Well didn't that bird pick out the ritz to stay in! Beautiful pictures!

Too often I've been guilty of thinking that "robin's egg blue" is a cliche description for a color. Not anymore. What an amazing, vibrant color those eggs have! Congrats on creating an environment that makes your mama bird and her soon to be hatchlings happy and secure. Keep posting photos, if you can, so we can follow the progress of your little family.

Well gang,
I'm sorry to report that a predator appears to have gotten to the nest. The Robin was perched on the top edge. No eggs inside. And one cracked shell on the ground. How disappointing! Nature has her ways.
