http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z346/hollyr1986/1c9d24d3.jpg What do I do? I am waiting for books to arrive by mail, but feel they will arrive too late! I live in North Georgia. It rains sometimes, and the weather ranges from 60-90 in the last few weeks. |

| Is there any other signs of illness on the plant besides the ugly blooms? I'm thinking it could be a case of bad sun burn. It's hard to tell from the pictures but some roses, particularly the dark red ones, will have their petal edges get those very dark, crispy spots from sun burn. You might try and shade it during the hottest part of the day and see if that helps. Or it could be the fungal disease botrytis. But that usually appears as spots all over the petals and not just at the edges. That can be cured with the proper fungicide spray. |

| I see some black spots... |
|
| Can you give us detailed information on the overall health of the plant? black spots? On the leaves? That is the fungal disease black spot, and it means that the roses needs to be treated with a fungicide. It usually isn't fatal, many of us deal with it yearly. Seil is right on dark red roses getting crisp edges in hot sun. Although, these just look like old blooms to me. How long have they been open? |

| Delph, I also live in North Georgia. We have had a lot of rain (well, more than the past few years) and the blackspot has been rampant. The bloom looks old, and perhaps was sunburned or damaged in some of the windy storms we've had lately. It hasn't been that hot yet, but it's getting hotter this weekend. You will probably need to regularly spray your roses. The Bayer Advanced Disease Control Spray (not the drench) is the best product to use. You only have to spray every other week. |
