I do find that Eden has to be cut back to stimulate growth. I am often frustrated by Eden's tendency to brown and ball.

Should I cut the whole plant back to about 9 inches and "start over." The other thing it has been doing past 2 years is parts of the plants develop a zillion little branches all in a 12 inch area with lots of tiny leaves - it almost looks hairy. I don't know what this is called and what it means.

The "hairy" look can be caused by RoundUp. You may see overdeveloped stipules, which are the little flanges at the base of the leaf stem. These overgrow to produce the appearance of a curved, straplike stem, while the actual leaflets remain narrow and underdeveloped. It only takes a droplet of spray to produce symptoms in roses.

The other possibility is Rose Rosette disease, which earlier (1-2 years ago) would have produced weird excessive growth, maybe with oversized wrinkled purple leaves and excessive rubbery thorns. Roses dying of an old RRD infection can have stunted growth. But my guess is RoundUp.

Do the blooms look normal for Eden?
